whores, courtesans and burlesque

My editor pointed out to me today that I had been absent from my blog for some considerable while, so I have returned to blow the dust off the place and amend matters. I say my editor, for lo! she is, as I am presently slaving over a hot keyboard on a book . The theme of this jolly work of genius is performative femininity and burlesque. Naturally a more eye grabbing and sexy title will have to be thought up. Anything with 'performative femininity' in the title is likely to strike the average bookshop browser as a sure thing for a headache. The content is highly risque in places, dealing as it does with the history of women 'performing' their gender in order to escape the limitations places upon them because of it . Perhaps Whores, Courtesans and Burlesque might do it? I am presently trying to recall where I read about posture dancers in the 17th century but nothing is filtering through. As a woman who has absorbed a great deal of historical and literary smut over the years the mental filing system can be somewhat slow.

In other news I spent a couple of days being tailed by a film crew for an upcoming Burlesque show on Channel 4. They filmed my shows at Soho Review Bar and Cafe Royal along with various backstage shinanigans and interviews. There are also rumblings of another couple of film thingies in the pipe line. We shall see.

Toodle pip for now G x

Come to the show!

I have just finished my run and yoga and feel much better for it.  I actually took a few minutes off my running time this evening as well.

Tomorrow I am filming with ostriches.....if I survive I will be spending Wednesday working on the book.  Tomorrow involves a 4.30 am start. How vile.

All things Lamour!

Well here we are in Flaming June, and today was actually sunny. Amazing. Pining as I am for LA I have actually been quite busy this week. The builders are finally out of the house (hoorah!) and I have been sorting out oodles of stuff.  Ebay next stop. In addition to tripping over painters and decorators  at every turn, I've been doing  lots of research for the book, which is coming on apace, I think I will toddle up to the British Library on Wednesday next week to check out some primary source material.

I am also awaiting delivery of my new outfit which I have to trim and crystal, I foresee another two weeks of Swarovski crystal turning up in the most unlikely places....

Make sure you book your ticket for the upcoming Night of Lamour show at Soho Revue Bar  it's going to be fabulous show! We have Bearlesque, Beatrix Von Bourbon, Babette's Feast, fabulous dancers, Divine Miss Em and of course myself in my new Majorette show.
How can you turn that down!??!

New York City

Ooh I do love New York! I've just come back from my fabulous trip filming for Inside Fly. We were working on gorgeous short film to be screened at the New York and Paris fashion shows. I'll be back out in the Big Apple for the screening in October.  Gorgeously enough I was brought a selection from Derek Lam to wear for the scene prior to the fan dance. The dress I chose was absolutely perfect.  Hopefully I will have some pictures for you soon.
We were filming at The Box celebrity hang-up extraordinaire. I was hoping to go out on the town afterwards but after 14 hours and about a hundred fan dances I was far too exhausted!
Still I did manage to get out and about a fair bit - lots of writing in coffee shops which yielded two articles for my forthcoming column and a spot of research for the book. Not terribly rock and roll I grant you, but all good stuff.
I could do with some rock n roll living as it goes - but that might have to wait until I get back out to LA later on in the summer! x

No, I haven't joined a marching band it is actually for a show...all will be revealed (quite literally) at A Night of Lamour 28th June at Soho Revue Bar. Tickets sell out fast for this show, to get yours tootle along to ticketweb.co.uk

In other news, following my appearance of This Morning lots of gals are asking me for classes, so I am
