My editor pointed out to me today that I had been absent from my blog for some considerable while, so I have returned to blow the dust off the place and amend matters. I say my editor, for lo! she is, as I am presently slaving over a hot keyboard on a book . The theme of this jolly work of genius is performative femininity and burlesque. Naturally a more eye grabbing and sexy title will have to be thought up. Anything with 'performative femininity' in the title is likely to strike the average bookshop browser as a sure thing for a headache. The content is highly risque in places, dealing as it does with the history of women 'performing' their gender in order to escape the limitations places upon them because of it . Perhaps Whores, Courtesans and Burlesque might do it? I am presently trying to recall where I read about posture dancers in the 17th century but nothing is filtering through. As a woman who has absorbed a great deal of historical and literary smut over the years the mental filing system can be somewhat slow.
In other news I spent a couple of days being tailed by a film crew for an upcoming Burlesque show on Channel 4. They filmed my shows at Soho Review Bar and Cafe Royal along with various backstage shinanigans and interviews. There are also rumblings of another couple of film thingies in the pipe line. We shall see.
